BODY & SOUL - SRI LANKA

  • Kurulu Bay Gurunkanda, Kathaluwa, Ahangama Sri Lanka (map)

Join us on the South Coast of Sri Lanka for a Yoga Escape to rock your body and soul.

It’s a tropical island escape! Join us in Sri Lanka for a week of transformational yoga, endless sunshine, and even better company. A retreat for your body and soul! We basically created an escape that is our idea of a perfect vacation. A bucket list destination surrounded by water, totally immersed in culture, with incredible food, all while doing yoga every damn day. This 6 day, 5 night escape will leave your mind refreshed, your body renewed and your soul revived.

The Destination

The South Coast of Sri Lanka is known for its coconut palms, friendly waves, quaint fishing villages, and the best hidden beaches.

The Island life is calling you! Sandy bays and brilliantly blue water, fine sand between your toes and palm trees overhanging the shore. On the secluded beaches of Sri Lanka, you will quickly forget the rest of the world. When you aren’t soaking up the Sri Lankan rays by the pool, the South Coast has so much to offer. Visit the local markets and smell the aroma of Sri Lankan spices and curries, surf on the most friendly of waves, explore old colonial buildings and towns, or relax in the villa with a book in hand overlooking Koggala Lake. The list goes on. So much to do before, during and after, making your retreat a long extended cultural escape.

Kurulu Bay

Our home for the week, Kurulu Bay is located in the coastal town of Ahangama overlooking Koggala Lake. One of the largest and most scenic lakes on the island, surrounded by lush greenery and breathtaking views. In other words, a battery recharger for your soul.

The property is located near the golden sand beaches of Kablana and Ahangama, only 10 minutes away by Tuk Tuk. With popular surfing spots all along the coast from Ahangama to Weligama and unique cafes that you can explore during your free time, yet far enough away from the busy tourist areas to experience local Sri Lanka. A true hidden gem where you can gaze out into the endless Koggala lake. Every moment has been crafted to allow for a sense of intimacy with nature and offer a space to unwind from the daily hustle and bustle. With an indoor and outdoor yoga space, a luxurious pool with lounge chairs to relax and soak up the sunshine, kitchen and dining area and plenty of lounging areas to embody the island life.

From the moment you arrive, you will feel immersed in sunshine and culture. The yoga is the cherry on top to an incredible cultural, tropical escape.

The Yoga Sanctuary

Flow, Sweat, Stretch…. Repeat

Like any good tropical yoga escape, our yoga home offers two scenic yoga shalas overlooking the beautiful Koggala Lake. With stunning views of the water to embody a feeling of calm, surrounded by nature. It’s the perfect, refreshing setting to restore balance and soak up the tropical surroundings. The mornings will include a dynamic class to heat you from the inside out and feel at one with the surroundings. Our afternoon practices will be reflective and restorative, the best way to unwind from a day of exploring and set the tone for renewal.

Yoga Styles

Dynamic Flow

A strong, alignment-based vinyasa practice. Through intelligent sequencing, informed alignment, and yogic wisdom, students are encouraged to slow down and experience every moment of their lives. Our morning practices will be challenging and awakening, yet accessible for all levels.

Yin Yoga

Long, slow, and deep is one way to describe yin yoga. Postures are low to the ground and are held for longer periods of time to bring stillness and restoration to the body and mind. We believe in the balance, ease, and wholeness that Yin brings to students. These practices give you time to rest and digest and drop into a state of deep relaxation.

Sound Healing

Sound healing is the practice of using different sounds and instruments to create a deep connection with yourself, your intuition and improve your emotional well-being. Amy will guide you through sound healing sessions using pure quartz crystal singing bowls, incorporating mediation techniques, using mantra and intention setting to allow you to dive deep into relaxation. Sound healing baths will be practiced lying down using props to support the body, offering a space to rest, unwind and heal through the frequency of sound.

Culinary Feast for the Eyes

The Culinary world at Kurulu Bay is a festival for all of the senses.

Sri Lanka is the best food of Thailand and India combined. What more could you want! It is an all inclusive retreat, meaning you will enjoy brunch, afternoon tea, and dinner made by the extraordinary culinary team. Every meal at Kurulu Bay is unique, yet steeped in vibrant Sri Lankan spices and flavours. In addition to the natural focus on Sri Lanka’s world of spices, you will be wowed by the fresh produce and juicy mangos. The retreat will be vegetarian, using sustainably harvested produce from the surrounding area, prepared in an open kitchen using organic oils and ingredients. The team can cater to all your dietary needs. Just let us know when booking and we’ll make sure there will be plenty to feast on.

We’re also including a Sri Lankan cooking class as part of the cultural experience! Get ready to learn from the locals and bring your favourite dishes home with you.

Explore the Island Life

Sri Lanka’s landscapes are vast, welcoming and wild. Waves, wildlife, tea plantations and tranquillity, this retreat will be a cultural immersion in everything the area has to offer. There is so much to explore and what better way to experience it than by boat. We have a special day trip organised by boat along the Koggala lake, where we will visit a Buddhist temple and Cinnamon Island. A day to soak in the surroundings by water and embody ancient traditions.

We have to mention the surf because it’s one of the reasons Sri Lanka is on many traveller’s bucket lists, and it’s also the perfect reason to bring your surfer friend or partner. If you have never surfed before, Sri Lanka has the kindest waves you can find, and if you are a pro, there is a consistent wave that makes it fun to be out all day long. We love to make our retreats flexible so you will have the option to add on a surf lesson and beach day experience when booking.

You will have plenty of free time each day to explore at your leisure. For those hoping to explore a tea plantation, there will be an option when booking to include this with your retreat experience. Unscheduled time is so important, so you can make it the holiday you want and need.

There is also an incredible spa centre onsite with hand-picked therapists from around the world who blend Eastern Wellness and Western Science. With tailored healing therapies, the team can create a bespoke ritual plan for you. You can add a treatment to your retreat when booking.

Your Teachers & Hosts

Amy and Janet are yogis, teachers, wanderlusters, and lovers of life.

These two are dedicated teachers, students and world travellers. When they aren’t planning yoga classes, they are planning their next holiday.

When it comes to yoga, their practices are strong, creative, and always a bit cheeky! Both of these experienced teachers ooze kindness in every conversation and interaction they have with the people around them. They are inclusive and believe every student and person in the room deserves to be seen. You will feel at home in their presence and inspired to live your life to the fullest.

They are also passionate about travelling, and exploring the world and believe the best escape is all about balance on and off the mat. Expect to be fully immersed, escape the daily hustle, feel balanced and nourished with a spice of adventure!

We can’t wait to hang out with you!

The greatest retreat that I’ve ever down before! The people, the food, the living in the nature, all this high end vibe together offered can’t have enough, just as some beautiful days to nourish the body and mind. Highly recommended.

Janet and Amy are warm, approachable and have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Having attended their yoga classes in Sydney I was thrilled to learn they were doing retreats and signed up to the one in Spain with a friend.
I loved it all, the venue was beautiful and serene, the yoga and workshops energising and calming and the food incredible. I loved every second and came home feeling relaxed and fun gratitude.
A must do! It was also nice to connect with others on retreat but you also got plenty of solo time if that’s what you are after.
— Sam

I have attended two retreats with Amy and Janet and these have been the best self care decisions I made!
